Unique Ways to Celebrate Thanksgiving with Your Family

holiday family bonding activities

Thanksgiving is a family holiday, pretty traditional, at least in terms of organization and food. Most people still eat turkey, have pumpkin pie and gather together only to fall asleep eventually, or watch some boring TV show. Because celebrating traditionally is something that “must be done”, otherwise you are an alien.
Well… actually it must not be this way and we should learn to use less frequently the work “must”.
Thanksgiving happens in the most beautiful season (at least chromatically speaking), when nature looks amazing all around us and provides us many fun and non-traditional ways to celebrate.
Family therapy specialists, like those found at Southwest Counseling in Westminster suggest family bonding activities during the holidays,
Organize a pot luck in your yard
Make some beautiful decorations and gather all the family around the fire pit in your yard. Cook food directly over the fire pit. There can still be turkey, sweet potatoes and apple crisp desert, but you can also have non-traditional food and delicious hot and spiced chocolate or tea.
Organize a throwing contest
This is going to be fun for everyone, regardless the age of the participants. Smashing those Jack-o’-lanterns will bring laughter and the winner will be the one who can throw the farthest.
Organize a hike and a picnic
National parks and woods are awesome in the autumn and, if the weather is nice, you can use Thanksgiving as an opportunity to have some fresh air and enjoy the nature together with the people you love.
